Administering Injection

For all syriJet injection: Dry the site of injection with sterile gauze.
(a) Dry tissue will accept the anesthetic much more readily.
(b) Helps prevent movement of trhe instrument at the time of injection.

Hold the instrument firmly in your hand and place the orifice gently in direct contact with, and at right angles to the tissue. The orifice of the Syrijet must be place at right angles to the surface of the tissue in order to insure an effective injection.

Do Not compress the tissue;
Do Not exert pressure.

If pressure is exerted it compresses the tissue and destroys the receptacle for the solution.

Drop the lip.
After placing the SyriJet, the lip or cheek should be allowed to resume its normal position over the instrument. If the tissue is pulled at the time of injection it will cause the anesthetic solution to spread laterally, resulting in good tissue anesthesia but not operative anesthesia.

Hold the instrument motionless at the time of injection. In some areas, it may be desirable to use a finger rest and gently "squeeze" the trigger.

Do not lift the lip immediately after injection.

Tissue stretching following injection will cause slight bleeding.
